This series of photos is from Ardeche too.  There was a fair on the main square in Les Vans and the other pictures are from a walk I mentioned in earlier post

Haven’t blogged lately as we were away in France for 10 days.  It was quite a whirlwind and we manged to do so much in ten days.  We first went to Les Vans which is in the Ardeche region of France.  It is south of Lyon and North of Aix en Provence.  The town is situated in a valley.  Millions of years ago it was a seabed.  One can notice the layers in the rock on the side of the mountains.  The first weekend we were there we had a friend named Brice visit us with his wife and son from Marseille.  We also caught up with the Roches, Olivier and Nathalie and their two kids who came up from Marseille as well.  It was still cold and not quite spring out and we went up for a walk in the mountains but soon noticed we were under dressed and were very cold.  We had a picnic anyway and then walked some more.

Following their visit we spent a day with Vincent and Violette who own a Olive mill and rent one of the shops under our house in town there.  They sell olive oil, soaps, tapanades, all from the olives from the mill above town.  We spent the day at their house and then walked.  Ceci had come down with a fever and stayed with Violette and helped her package some of their soaps.

On subsequent days we enjoyed eating out, trying to clean the house out and even got to play tennis.  We also spent a day with friends who have a vineyard and beautiful property in Vallon Pont D’arc.  Their house was spectacular and we enjoyed one of the best home-made meals I have had in awhile.

This weekend I took James to The Barber Center in Greensboro for a Tournament.  His first match was at 9:15.  He won that fairly easily 6-2, 6-1.  His next match wasn’t until 1:00 so we decided to go to downtown Greensboro.  We ended up on Elm street in the old section of town.  The storefronts were really old fashioned and the buildings over all were architectually interesting.  We took a lot of photos.  We then took the car a few block farther into the center of town and walked around.  We discovered a bakery and also found a diner to eat at.  At the diner we had cherry sodas and hot dogs and french fries.  We made it back to the tournament in time and James pulled out a tough match winning in the tie break.  We decided to drive home for an hour to rest and then came back for James’ third match at 6.  This match turned into a controversy during the second set when James thought the score was 4 all and the other kid thought it was 4-2.  The ref was called over and in the end they had to start again where they last agreed when James was down 2-4.  Evidently, he lost the second set and had to go to a tie break which he then lost.  He was so tired out there it was painful to watch.  We then ended up eating at the bar at Olive Garden.  The meal was interesting as we had four people standing behind us talking in the strongest southern accent I have heard in awhile.  James and I were trying not to laugh as the conversation centered on going to The Skillet the next day for “the best Omlettes” around.  At another table drama happened when a hot container with red sauce was put on a table and literally exploded.  A poor girl was crying because she had sauce covering her face and got it in her eyes.  The sauce covered the back wall.  Who knew eating at Olive garden could be a dangerous affair.  James and I left discreetly at 9 looking forward to going to sleep back at home.  It had been a busy day.
